This time she chuckled and the sound did funny things to his resolve. “Mr. Stockton, that line has never worked on me and believe me it’s been used by the best there are.”

YIPPEE! It’s #WIP Wednesday! It’s all about Faire Island today. I love this scene between Rod and his sister Barbara. Rod has been trying to get Jen to go out with him and she keeps shooting him down. Insecurities he’s not used to begin to rise to the surface.

“Really? That’s the last time you’ll think of her. You’ll just conveniently wipe her from your mind and move on?”

If only I could. Why the hell can’t I stop fixating on her? What is it about Jennifer that I can’t let go?

“Rod,” Barbara says gently and I look up to find her gaze softening. “I don’t know Jen’s whole story, but it’s possible that she’s just as afraid as you are. You more than anyone can understand that, right?”

I stare at my sister. Why hadn’t I thought of that? “She lost someone too?”

Barbara nods. “Yes, her husband. Don’t give up on her. She needs to get to know the real Rod so she knows you’re a safe first step.”

For this week’s #WIPWednesday I want to invite you inside the mind of an author. I read an article about an Island off the coast of Ireland that was doomed unless they came up with a way to repopulate. I don’t really remember how they did it but the idea of that happening latched onto my brain. My creative process started to work and over a two year period I could see a series happening.

My almost all male island is off the coast of North Carolina and they need women. Not just any women but women that are single, pretty, and ready to mingle. At least that’s what some of the towns folk are thinking.

At a town meeting they decide to kill two birds with one stone so to speak. They have an old inn that was gifted to the town when the couple passed. It’s becoming a hinderance and cost too much to maintain so they put it up as bait…I mean as a prize. They circulate the contest worldwide and to enter you must fill out a questionnaire and include a picture.

The entries start flooding in and the sorting starts by the 90% all male committee. Men that submitted entries were the first given the boot. Married women were next to go into file 13. Women that were too old or too young were sorted into a maybe pile. They whittled the number down to 10 gorgeous marriageable women and the entire town voted on the winner! It was a landslide!
